Robert Dale Mattsen

.Robert (Bob) Dale Mattsen born January 29, 1954, and passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 20, 2024. Beloved husband to Lynn, father to Alicia, (Gary Nelson), Ryan (Elizabeth), Carolynn Vaneman (Jeffro), Janell Keller (Matt), Monica McKay (Mark), Angela Woods (Tremaine) grandfather to Fletcher, Foster, Finnegan, Anna, Sarina, Renee, Alexandra, Skylar, Elijah, Scarlett; brother to Randy, Tammy and Jim, uncle and friend to many. Bob grew up in Duluth, MN and often spoke of his childhood favorite activity of fishing for trout in the Lester River. During high school, his family moved to Park Rapids, MN where he graduated from. After high school, he joined the Navy and served for 4 years. Shortly afterwards, he began working for AT&T where he remained until he retired in 2019 after 42 years. He greatly loved his family and cherished each of his 10 grandchildren, being involved in their lives as often as possible. He was passionate about fishing, hunting and playing cribbage. He played cribbage two times a week at the American Legion. He particularly enjoyed being a part of a great ministry organization called Fishing For Life, which serves youth, families, veterans and communities through fishing and outdoor programs. He was a fishing guide, mentor and do whatever needs to be done resource for them. One of his abilities was to make others comfortable whether he just met them or had known them for years. People said of him that he enjoyed life, loved nature, was even-keeled, faith-filled, positive, kind, funny, down-to-earth, generous, loving and never at a loss for words, a true extrovert. He had some recent health issues but was feeling great after triple bypass surgery and losing 35 lbs. He often made the comment that he should be good for another 10,000 miles. He met obstacles in life with a positive outlook and was grateful to God for his many blessings. Because of his personal relationship with Jesus, he was confident that it is better... to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8 (as highlighted in his Bible) He will be greatly missed but is in his heavenly home now. Celebration of Bob's Life will be Saturday, August 24, 11 AM with a gathering for friends and family one hour before at Emmanuel Christian Center, 18912 Twin Lakes Road, NW, Elk River.
