Richard Lloyd Neitzel

Richard "Rich" Lloyd Neitzel was married to Beth Marie (Askelson Moran) Neitzel. They married February 15, 2020 with a small family ceremony at the Spirit of Hope chapel in Hopkins. They later celebrated with relatives and friends on March 7, 2020; just in time to gather together before COVID-19. Rich and Beth found one another through "Match.com" in June 2018. They immediately connected and combined their families: Rich's daughter, Payton, and Beth's three children: Alex, Nicholas and Gretchen. He moved from St. Louis Park to Rosemount. Rich was diagnosed with follicular thyroid cancer in 2011. He fought a very long battle, as it later metastasized to several bone areas. Due to continued radiation and large amounts of radioactive iodine treatments, Rich was diagnosed with Acute Myloid Leukemia (AML) in February 2023. After only four rounds of chemotherapy, unsuccessful at fighting off leukemia, his body was no longer able to keep up the fight. Rich spent many days at the leukemia clinic and many nights in the Methodist hospital on Mayo campus. His last two goals were both successfully accomplished as first, he was able to walk Payton "down the aisle" in the hospital chapel on August 28th thanks to the palliative care team helping make this happen. And second, home hospice made it possible for Rich to come home where he spent his last couple days with family by his side. We all love you Rich and will hold our memories with you close in our hearts. Rich is preceded in death by his sister Suzanne Grieger. He is survived by his wife Beth, daughters Payton (Jacob Ricke) and Gretchen Moran, and sons Alex and Nicholas Moran; sister Kathryn (William Learst), parents Ron and Karen Neitzel, niece Sophie and nephews Steven and William. Rich was born in Fond du Lac, WI and has lived in Minnesota for the past 40 years. The family will have a burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes, MN at a later date. Funeral services will be held at Washburn-McReavy Eden Prairie Chapel, 7625 Mitchell Road, Eden Prairie, MN. Visitation Tuesday evening from 4:00-7:00 PM and Service on Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour before the service and a reception with dessert following the service.
