Ray Edward Miller

Ray Edward Miller September 29, 1937 - March 21, 2024 Ray Edward Miller passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus Thursday, March 21, 2024. Ray was known for his kindness, godly wisdom, and subtle sense of humor. He loved the Bible, studied it, taught it, and memorized portions of it with the goal of applying it into his life. Ray was born on September 29, 1937, to Ralph and Anne Miller in St. Louis, MO. Ray loved music, sang in musical groups in high school and at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. He loved to travel and spent six months cycling through Europe with AMYH friends including going over the Alps in Norway. Ray then went on to Army Language School studying French. In 1961, he had orders to report to Four Power Headquarters in Potsdam, East Germany and on the way home to tell his family goodbye, he received new orders to report to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Southeast Asia due to the Berlin Wall being built. Ray served in Cambodia for two years in transportation, where he oversaw transporting people and goods in and out of the country. While there, he received several awards, including the Army Commendation Medal. Most importantly he met Barbara McGonagle, his future wife of 60 years. They dated and became engaged in Cambodia where Barbara was serving as a missionary. Ray finished his military service in July 1963, and they got married on December 27th, 1963. Ray's career path took him down several avenues. After he received a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master's degree in school administration, Ray served as an Accountant and then as Treasurer and President of an insurance company in the Chicago area. He then moved on to be President of group ministry called Fellowship for Companies of Christ (FCCI) in Atlanta, Georgia. FCCI encouraged Presidents and owners of companies to run their businesses based on Biblical principles, which was one of Ray's passions. Ray finished his career by owning his own consulting and discipleship ministry called TRAC3. He had a love for discipleship and mentoring and he particularly grew close to his TRAC3 discipleship group through which he formed very dear relationships that he kept for the remainder of this life. After retirement, Ray taught Economics as an adjunct professor at Bethel University in St. Paul, MN to degree completion students. Ray loved family. He was a supportive son, devoted to his mother and father throughout their life. He was a loyal and loving husband, married to his sweetheart for over 60 years and was an involved father who coached, attended sporting games and musical programs, and was continually encouraging his children in their educational pursuits and passions. Ray most importantly passed on his faith in Jesus and love of God's people to his children. He instilled in them his love of all people groups of the world and his passion for travel. The family had many adventures traveling the US via station wagon & camper and traveled abroad together meeting people wherever they went. Ray's love of people shown through with his ability to ask great questions and to get to know anyone he met, making them feel special and welcomed. He would share God's love for them and his interest in who they were and where they came from. Ray also loved to read and was regularly seen with the Bible or a good book in his lap. Ray is survived by his wife of 60 years: Barbara McGonagle Miller. Sister: Anne Wenhold, Son: David Miller (Robyn), Grandchildren: Erin, Noah & Cole. Daughter: Heidi Monson (Dan), Granddaughter: Jessica Carvette (Brax), Great Grandchildren: Clint, Valkyrie & Jubilee. Grandson: Caleb Monson, Granddaughter: Josephine Williamson (Nate), Great Grandchildren: Lucy, Kenzie, Maggie & Riley. Grandson: Conrad Monson (Maria), Great Grandchildren: James, AnnaBeth, Sawyer & Dawson. Granddaughter Mollie Ndlovu (Phil), Great Grandchildren: Jace & Joel. And Daughter: Lisa Provost (Brian), Grandchildren: Samantha Kramer (Nic) and Ben Provost. Ray was very proud of his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Ray loved youth mission programs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be made in his honor to Northridge Fellowship Youth Missions Memorial Services will be held on May 6th, 2024, at 11am at Northridge Fellowship Church in Rogers, MN.
