Nick Haddad

Haddad, Nick J. Age 73, was born on October 24, 1938 in Whitesville, West Virginia and died August 10, 2012 at his home in Edina, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Bessie Haddad; and by his sisters, Patricia Van Buren and Pauline Bsharah. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Pat; his children, Nicholas (Kathryn), Stephanie, Rebecca (Ziad), and John (Julie); his grandchildren, Helen, Owen, Waleed, Moses, and Mariam; his sisters, Peggy (David) Sadd and Phyllis (Eugene) Sadd; his brother, Sam (Betty Scott Ireland) Haddad; sisters-in-law; brothers-in- law; and many nieces and nephews. Nick received his B.A. from West Virginia University and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia. Following an internship at Temple University, he served in the US Air Force as a Flight Surgeon. From 1967-1971, he did an ophthalmology residency at the Mayo Clinic. For 38 years and until June, 2011, he was in private practice in Edina, MN. Nick was a member of the American Medical Association, the Minnesota Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Minnesota Association of Ophthalmology. He was an Adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota, and on the medical and surgical staff at Fairview Southdale Hospital, Edina, MN. Nick was kind and giving. From 2002-2010, he traveled on an annual medical mission to Granada, Nicaragua. Nick had an endless curiosity for science and nature. He was a charter member of the Science Museum of Minnesota and a long-time member of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Nick loved gardening, golf, hunting, and fishing, but most of all being with his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his positive spirit. We are most grateful for the loyal and loving care Nick received for over three decades from Dr. Thomas Haberman and the staff of the Mayo Clinic, and, more recently, from Dr. Aref Al-Kali at the Mayo Clinic and Dr. Mohammed Nashawaty at Minnesota Oncology. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Science Museum of Minnesota (Development Office, Science Museum of Minnesota, 120 W. Kellogg Blvd, St. Paul, MN 55102) or to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum (Attn: Development, 3675 Arboretum Drive, Chaska, MN 55318-9613). A funeral service will be held at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, 3450 Irving Ave S., Mpls at 11 AM on Tuesday, August 14. A private interment will follow the funeral.
