Nathalie Johnson

Nathalie Lois Johnson (nee Nystrom), age 74, of Burnsville (formerly of Richfield) and Sun City, Arizona. She was born August 31, 1927, and died April 30, 2002, in the loving company of family and friends. A graduate of the 1945 class of Washburn High School, Nathalie attended the University of Minnesota, and as a loving homemaker brought up four children. She was a talented painter and appreciated birds, butterflies, and all gentle creatures. Spring green was her favorite color. Nathalie was a member of Garden Club for over 45 years. Family and friends valued her garden and wildflower arrangements and cherished invitations to her table. She was an extraordinary cook and baker. Nathalie also was funny, bright, sweet, dynamic, and deeply spiritual. She is remembered for her special grace. She was a member of the Lutheran Women's Auxiliary, the Meals on Wheels program, the Men's Chorus Auxiliary, and Community Emergency Service. As an Elderhostel participant of many trips, most memorable was when she toured Europe on bicycle in 1997, putting in thirty-five miles a day in Umbria. On another Elderhostel visit, she completed a challenging course along the Danube. Nathalie loved to camp, especially in Door County, Wisconsin, and always looked forward to bicycling there. She instilled in her children a profound respect for nature. She loved jack-in-the-pulpits, cats, blooming cactus, singing, all green, green growing things, insects, turtles, combinations of rose and peach, the prayer of St. Francis, the French Impressionists, almonds, walnuts, pecans, and walks in the woods. Family and friends remember Nathalie's extraordinary kindness, gentleness, and sweetness toward others. She had a special way with small children. She was infused with a bright light and exuded a living commitment to her faith. Taking care of others was one of her greatest gifts, and we cherish her for this. We will miss her sense of delight in simple things a green wasp, a chickadee. Survivors include loving husband, Dr. Wayne D. Johnson; children, Kimberle (James) Kaufman, Heather (Peter) Row, Wayne (Karen Subach) Johnson, Nathalie Johnson, and Karin Wilburn; grandchildren, Rachel & Sarah Kaufman; and Andrew Row; sister, Donna (Charles) Knilans; brother, Robert (Irene) Nystrom; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Larson and Elaine Johnson; nephews and nieces, Paul, Robin, Cindy, Scott, Brad, Brian, Sandy, Stuart, Bob, Debbie, and Lynn. Funeral service Friday, 11 am, Diamond Lake Lutheran Church, 5760 Portland Ave S. Visitation Thursday (TODAY), 5-8 pm, Washburn-McReavy, Peterson-Stohlberg, 1838 E. Minnehaha Pkwy and one hour prior to service at church. Interment Lakewood Cemetery.
