Minerva (Murray) (Fleming) Takis

Takis, Minerva L. (Murray) (Fleming) 87, of St. Anthony Village, passed away Monday, August 31, 2010, at Bethany Covenant Home in Minneapolis, MN, under the loving care of her family, Allina hospice and the incredible personnel at Bethany. Minerva was preceded in death by her parents, Alma Dwyer (Johnson) (Murray) and Daniel P. Murray; brothers Vincent Murray and Bruce Murray, Sr.; and her beloved aunt, Irene Anderson. Born and raised in Northeast Minneapolis, Minerva was a proud "Mom" to her daughters, Jeanette Fleming of St. Anthony Village, MN and Eileen Ware (Fleming) (Emert), of Belmont, CA, and "Grandma" to grandsons, Aaron and Colin Emert, in California. She is also survived by loving family in the Dallas area - Barbara Bruggman (Chris) and their family, and by the entire Murray family here in the Twin Cities. She loved spending time and holidays with her brother Bruce's wonderful family since she and Jeanette returned to Minnesota in 2001. Minerva was honored to raise her family in Minneapolis by working for such fine companies as Cargill and Midland Co-Op, and then for many years assisting Mr. Amos S. Deinard, co-founder of Leonard, Street and Deinard. After Eileen finished high school and Jeanette was at the U of M, Minerva moved to the SF Bay Area, and eventually the girls joined her in California where she remarried and they all lived in proximity to one another for many years. Minerva enjoyed a second career in California as a distinguished appointee to the San Mateo County government beginning in 1973 and was appointed as Clerk to the Board of Supervisors from 1979 until her retirement in late 1984. After retirement, Minerva helped take care of her grandsons, and then traveled all over the U.S. and parts of Canada with her aunt and uncle, "Irene and Andy," from Dallas, and always commented how lucky she was to have lived in such beautiful places and to have traveled to see so much of our wonderful country. Minerva is interred at Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis, and overlooks all of us from the top of a hill. The family wishes to thank the people at Hillside and at Washburn-McReavy for their respectful cooperation this past week to enable the private interment that Minerva wanted. We also thank Minerva's lifelong friends, Mary and Richard Davis, as well as all our friends and family, our neighbors at Autumn Woods, and send a special note of gratitude to Jeanette's colleagues at Faegre & Benson, all of whom have given such gracious and wonderful support all along Minerva's journey. It was an honor to be loved by and to care for this good, brave and brilliant lady, and we miss her already.
