Kelly Mary H. "Peggy" Kelly, age 70, of Edina & Captiva, FL, passed away Feb. 20, 2005 surrounded by her family. Preceded in death by her father, Dr. Ralph G. Hubbard; mother, Margaret W. Hubbard; and granddaughter, Alexandra Loncar. Survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Mike; daughter, Michele (Andrew) Herring; son, Michael (Gretchen) Kelly Jr.; daughter, Mary Anne (Frank) Loncar; 8 grandchildren, James, Matthew, Joseph and Meghan Herring, Connor and Cormac Kelly, and Lillie and Emma Loncar. Peggy was born in Detroit, Michigan, graduated from Redford High School in Detroit, earned an honors degree in education from the University of Michigan and a masters degree in education from the University of Minnesota. She taught mathematics in junior high schools in Michigan and Minnesota. After moving to Minnesota with her husband and family in 1971, she continued her involvement in education and became very active in her community. She served in many leadership positions in Edina, Hennepin County and the State of Minnesota. She was elected to the Edina School Board (1978- 1984) and was the Board's first woman chair. Elected to the Edina City Council (1985-1997), serving as Mayor Pro-Tem (1989- 1997). Peggy was appointed to the Hennepin County Library Board and was a board member of the Hennepin County Library Foundation. She served on the board of the Normandale Community College Foundation and as a trustee of the College of St. Benedict. She endowed student scholarships at Normandale and St. Benedict's as well as the expansion of the Edina Art Center (Peggy Kelly Media Center). She was a member of the Church of Our Lady of Grace (Edina), Basilica of St. Mary (Minneapolis), Our Lady of Fatima (Garrison) and St. Isabel (Sanibel, FL). She was a longtime member of the Woman's Club of Minneapolis, Interlachen Country Club and The Captiva Island Yacht Club. In addition to her home in Edina, Peggy enjoyed her lake home on Bay Lake and winter home on Captiva Island, FL. To her family and friends and everyone who knew her, Peggy was a caring person who was always ready to help others and to serve her community. She led a full, active, meaningful and accomplished life and will be greatly missed. The family is eternally grateful for the wonderful and loving care provided to Peggy by all the staff at English Rose Suites in Edina. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Edina Foundation, 5280 Grandview Square, Edina, MN 55436 (952- 833-9573) to benefit the Edina Art Center. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, Feb. 24, 2:30 PM at Church of Our Lady of Grace, 5071 Eden Avenue, Edina.
