Marcia E. Carlson

Marcia Elaine Carlson, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on February 20, 2024. She lived a life of abundance beginning with her birth November 9, 1927, in Vasa, MN to Harris and Lillian Selander. She grew up on several farms outside of Red Wing, MN with her siblings, and attended Red Wing High School. She married Robert Carlson January 3, 1947. Together they were blessed with 4 sons, and 1 daughter, raising their family in Winona, MN and later in Coon Rapids, MN. Marcia, affectionately known as Marcy to those who knew her was a bright to light her family, friends, community, and her church. She worked many years for Dairy Queen and then Target before retiring, but candling eggs in World War II gave her the most pride. Her desire to be a servant leader began early in her life, and over the years her community volunteerism continued with involvement in church, school, and boy scouts just to name of few. In her later years she was an active volunteer with the Miss Coon Rapids Pageant, the North Star Lions Club, and Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka. Marcy woke up every morning with a zest for life; she was energetic, generous, faithful, gracious, and full of love and pure kindness. Her house was the house the neighborhood kids wanted to hang out in. She was the glue to her family, being our fearless leader that navigated us through storms, and opened her arms with a hug to comfort us and provide peace. She was our supporter, confidant, role model, and beacon. She had an amazing ability to make those around her feel special and loved with her kind smile. She modeled a life well lived and will forever remain in our hearts and the lives she touched. Loved by all and adored by her family, friends, and community, her care giving spirit will be greatly missed, but we know she was welcomed home by her heavenly father. Marcy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert and son, Jeffrey. She is survived by her children, Jay, James, Jack (Anne), and Julie Carlson, her adoring grandchildren, Bryan (Michelle), Brandon (Brenda), Justin (Amy Pettey), Sloan (Sarah), Rachelle Carlson-Oien (Tom), Alyssa Holmbo (Adam), Kurtis (Natalie), Kimberly, and Jennifer Gates (Kyle), she was also adored by her 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Memorial service will be held Friday, March 1, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, 1601 4th Ave, south, Anoka, 2pm Service with visitation one hour prior.
