Lucille Marjorie Hill

Lucille Hill (nee Eisenman), age 91, of New Brighton, MN, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023, in New Brighton, MN. She is preceded in death by husbands, Patrick Ryan and Paul Hill, mother & father, Athene & Kenneth Eisenman, brother Bill Eisenman and sister Arlene Lamberton. She is survived by her children Suzie (Steve Bettendorf), Karen (Steve Grotkin), Debi Ryan, Mike (Rachel) Ryan, Danny Ryan, and Peggy Sandell (fiancé Mark Blocher); grandchildren Tim (Larissa) Bettendorf, Molly Sandell (fiancé Sean Hogan), Chris Grotkin (fiancée Karissa Johnson), Eric (Lindsey) Bettendorf, Megan (Cheyenne) Sandell, Sean (Becky) Ryan, Melissa (Freddy) Flores, Connor Ryan and great-grandchildren Danny Hunt, future step-granddaughter Seana Hogan, Addie Ryan, Tyler Ryan, Briella Solarzano, Colton Bettendorf and Madison Bettendorf. Lucille was born in Spring Valley, MN on January 23, 1932, and spent the first 11 years of her life with her family and extended family in the family farming business. They then decided to head up to St Paul, MN to start another chapter in the big city. She graduated from Central High School in 1950 and had various jobs in retail and banking before marrying Patrick Ryan in 1952. They had 6 children. Patrick died as a result of a car accident in 1964 and Lucille was left to raise the children, all of whom were under the age of 11 years. In 1966, she married Paul Hill. She began working at Murphy Motor Freight in Roseville, MN after her children were all in school. She was heartbroken when the company eventually went out of business as she loved her job in customer service and her co-workers. She later worked at several locations for Herberger’s including St Paul, Northtown and Roseville. She worked for Herberger’s until she retired. After retirement, she spent many years as a volunteer at her church, spending time giving her cat Tasha lots of love, and would spend the whole day, if she could, with a cup of coffee (or cups of coffee!) reading the Pioneer Press cover to cover. She loved her newspaper! We will celebrate her life on Friday, April 21st with Mass at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, 835 2nd Ave NW, New Brighton, MN at 11am. Visitation at the church will be from 10-11 AM prior to Mass. Following the Mass, the immediate family will be going to Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights, MN for a private interment.
