LaVerne Theodore Bergan

LaVerne T. Bergan 10-3-1927 - 4-11-2023 It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of LaVerne T. Bergan at the age of 95. LaVerne was born in Madison Township, IA on October 3, 1927 to Carl and Mabel (Kjos) Bergan of Ridgeway, IA. He graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1947 and attended Bradley University in Peoria, IL and Iowa State in Ames, IA. In 1953, LaVerne joined the Special Category Army Personnel with Air Force (SCARPWAF) (1953 - 1955) and served in the Korean War. During his time in the service, he learned skills that he used for the rest of his working career as a Carpenter. He was a longstanding member (1956-present) of the North Central States Carpenters Union, Local 322. LaVerne was a longtime member of the Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, where he met and married Lois Larson from Lanesboro, MN on June 15, 1972. They were active members of the Older, Wiser Lutherans (OWLs) group in the church where they made many cherished friendships. Though they lived in Minneapolis, they were both farm people at heart. They had a hobby farm north of the Twin Cities, where they would garden, raise cattle, and enjoy the country air. LaVerne is survived by sisters: Ethel Tietje, Jean Morris, Janet (Joe) Frank, in laws: Louise (Glenn) Schulz, Evelyn Larson, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. LaVerne is preceded in death by his wife Lois Bergan, parents Carl & Mabel Bergan, brothers: Eldon Bergan and Marvin Bergan, sister: Colleen Hovey, in laws: Herb Tietje, Jim Morris, Maynard Hovey, Clarence & Ida Larson, Edith Larson, Charles Larson, and Odell Larson. LaVerne's family would like to thank the staff of The Legacy of St Anthony Assisted Living and Brighton Hospice for their love, care, and support. Services will be held at Central Lutheran Church (333 south 12th street, Minneapolis, MN, 55404) on Wednesday April 26th, 2023. Visitation will be at 10:00 am and church service at 11:00 am. This will be immediately followed by a military funeral honors ceremony at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
