Joyce Darlene Gustafson

Joyce earned her wings on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 surrounded by the love of her family. Born September 13, 1936 in Princeton, Minnesota and graduated from Edison High School in Minneapolis. Joyce married her high school sweetheart Leonard in 1956. She lived her life full of faith. Lifetime member of Messiah Lutheran Church where she spent her days creating quilts and serving others. She loved giving her gifts of sewing. Joyce spent her years caring for her family and nearly every child she met. She devoted her life caring for others whether they were family or strangers. And she so cherished time with her lifelong, high school friends and her neighbors. Preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; daughter, Jayne Haugen; grand-daughter, Justina ( Tina) Mohr; parents, Gertrude and Carl Abrahamson; siblings, George, Audrey, and Evelyn. Deeply Loved by her children, Gary (Pam) Gustafson, Vicki (Joe) Edwall, Linda (Scott) Mohr; grandchildren, Erin Haugen (Troy), Brenna (Jim) Swanson, Amanda Gustafson ( Nick), Brad (Abby) Haugen, Amy Gustafson (Matt ), Ali ( Pat) Krall, Bella Hoppe and her father Jay; great-grandchildren, Annika Hoversten, Ella, Emma, Ava and Aiden Zimmerman, Aria and Gavin Phelus, Owen and Mari Haugen, Morgan and Josh Swanson, Charli Krall; brother, Don Abrahamson and his boys Dustin (Kelli) and Andy; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial service 11AM Friday, April 14 (visitation begins at 10AM) at MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2848 County Road H2, Mounds View. Interment Incarnation Cemetery, Lino Lakes. Memorials preferred: Pay it Forward. A special tribute written by daughter, Linda Mohr, as shared on Facebook. My Faith Filled Mom Joyce Gustafson has earned her wings. April 4th, 2023. She was 86 years old and she was thankful for every day. She is reunited with her special angels. I'm sure Tina met her at the gates of Heaven with a big, long awaited hug along with my Dad, Len and sister, Jayne. Joyce live her life with a positive attitude even in the darkest times. She let her light shine and spread JOY wherever she went. Joyce LOVED to sew for others almost daily. She was a member of the quilt club at Messiah Lutheran Church. Joyce was always excited for Tuesdays when they would meet and create together, with some amazing women. I'm guessing you even have a wallet, a quilt, a bag or a prayer square that she created for you, even with your name on it. She worked at Mill-ends fabric store just for fun. Her collect of fabric is massive. She taught all her grandchildren how to sew. She always said "I will have to live to hundred to use up my stash of fabric, I better get sewing!" But her most cherished job was Grandma, and Great Grandma or Gg, as the younger ones call her. Now life was filled with SPECIAL DAYS, MYSTERY Adventures, animal pancakes, planting her garden and puzzle time. These special people brightened up her day and she always said" I'm so lucky to have these beautiful kiddos" She loved cabin time, Black Sheep Family vacations, fishing, traveling with her friends and hanging out with her longtime neighbors. Joyce loved to have lunch with her forever friends from second grade though Edison High School. Now life was filled with laughs, celebrations, card parties and memories to last a lifetime. She always said" I have the best friends!" This past few weeks as we prepared for Joyce's trip (as she put it), I read the "Invisible String Book" to all the littles. It was a hard week for sure! But in true Mom fashion she turned it into a celebration week. She ordered Red lobster, we hung stars in her room, told many stories, watch children play and she made us all laugh. On 4/4/23 she went to her home with Jesus. She was home in her bed just as she wanted. Little Josh ran out her door barefoot as she was being taken to her resting home, in the rain. Even Heaven was crying. She was covered with the quilt she made for Tina. It was the same quilt that we placed on Tina's casket. We also placed her homemade frog by her side! The frog represents F.R.O.G. Forever Rely On God. Josh was the keeper of her frog as he ran to go back into her house, he said "Hey, mom, can we play funeral INSIDE." He is four and is full of Faith that he will see his GG again. Go be like Josh! She died with a happy heart, grateful for a wonderful life and surrounded by Big Love. She said "I'm ready" Miss you Mom, but this is temporary and I know you will wait in heaven for me. "I Can Only Image how that will be! "Love you MORE! Linda Mohr
