John Paul Skagerberg

Skagerberg, John Paul Passed away peacefully at St. Therese Care Suites Oxbow, October 22, 2015, age 92. John lived a full and active life. He enjoyed many hobbies and activities which included woodworking, gardening and, coin collecting. He was a true outdoorsman. He loved to camp and fish in the most rustic places he could get to. His other great passion was travel and history. He and his soul mate, Donna traveled all 50 States and as many other countries as they could get to searching out family and any other interesting historical facts they could find. John was also an accomplished businessman and community activist. He was an Eagle Scout, veteran of WWII, graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BS degree in Civil Engineering, and was a Master plumber. He opened and ran Skag Hardware in Long Lake, Minnesota after which he went to work in the family company Goodin Company where he diligently worked to ensure the Company's success for the remainder of his life. While at Goodin he wrote and began one of the pioneering computer programs in our distribution industry starting in the late 60's. He was one of the first members and leaders the buying group organization the company belongs to, WIT. He was a leader at Goodin Co. who made sure that each day Goodin Co. would become and remain a leader in the plumbing wholesale field. John was an active civic leader. He involved himself heavily in the Republican Party serving at one time as the 3rd Congressional District Chairman. He was very active in Hennepin County, the City of Edina the Edina Historical society, and the Boy Scouts. His Greatest Joy was FAMILY. Preceded in death by Wife Donna Clare, Brother David, Son Paul, Grandson-in-law Nick, and Great-granddaughter Ryann. John is survived by Daughter Leslye Lebakken (Ron), Grandson Noah Cutts, Granddaughter Alisa Elliot (Will), Son Greg (Kathy), Granddaughter Keri Hanson (Lee), Greyden, Evan, Grandson Zac (Tanya), Mason, Ryder, Josie, Grandson Tim (Jenny), Maddie, Jaxon, Ethan, Daughter Corrie Craig (Don), Grandson Dustin (Heather), Brynn, Dylan, Granddaughter Jessie Kasper (Dave), Charlie, Avery, Son Joel (Karen), Grandson Allan (Carrie), Granddaughter Jennifer L'Herault (Adam), Oliver, Annie, Granddaughter Katie Perrault (Peter), June, Daughter Beth Schwartz (Sandy), Grandson Dan (Megan), Granddaughter Alexa and many many relatives and friends. Visitation will be on Monday, October 26, 2015 at the Washburn-McReavy - Glen Haven Chapel, 5125 W Broadway Ave, Crystal, MN 55429 (763) 533-8643 from 4pm to 7pm. The funeral will be Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 10:00 am, with the service starting at 11:00 am at The Church of St Gerard, 9600 N Regent Avenue, Brooklyn Park, MN 55443. Interment, Gethsemane Cemetery. Memorials to Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
