John "Jack" Yarger

Yarger, John K. (Jack) Age 82 of Bloomington, formerly of Edina, passed away December 15, 2008 surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer. Countless friends and family loved Jack and the long list of friends reflected his genuine interest in others. He developed the majority of his friends through his church, work, golf and neighborhood. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He also was a great organizer, setting up frequent activities with his friends in Edina, up at the lake cabin or down in FL. He also made sure that he stayed in touch with friends that moved away. Jack was active until the very end, spending time with his Thursday morning prayer group, doing charity work with the Kiwanis, and golfing with his buddies 2-3 times a week. He also enjoyed traveling around the world and wintering in Naples, FL with his wife Phyllis. Jack was a longtime member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church after moving back to Edina in 1968. He graduated from the University of MN in 1949 and took a job as a cookie salesman with Nabisco. That job didn't last a year, he told anyone who'd listen that he lost it because he ate all his samples. He spent his next 40 years with Cargill, building their soybean oil business across the US. He retired in 1990 as Senior Vice President of the Refined Edible Oils Division. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ted, and his first wife, Marilyn. He will be greatly missed by wife, Phyllis Wagner; his children, Karen (Mike) Schlueter and John Jr. (Kim); grandchildren, Andrea, Erik, Katelyn, Harrison, Anna Katharine, Rachel; sister, Harriet Young; sister-in-law, Marge Yarger; his 6 nieces; Phyllis' children and grandchildren; and many other loving and lifelong friends. Visitation Thursday 5:30-8:00 pm at Washburn- McReavy Edina Chapel, W 50th and Vernon at Hwy 100, Edina. Memorial Service Friday 2:00 pm at St. Stephen the Martyr Episcopal Church, 50th St. & Wooddale Ave., Edina. Private interment Lakewood Cemetery.
