John Samuel Bold

John Bold passed 4/25/25, in his 90th year, surrounded by his loving family, in Eden Prairie, MN. He was born in Minneapolis to his Swedish mother, Eleanor, and his Scottish father, James Bold. John and Cherrie met at Hennepin United Methodist Church and were married 67 years. He attended Central High School and organized many class reunions. John graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1958. He served in the US Marine Corps. His talent for photography was recognized and he was sent to Washington, DC to take portraits of top military personnel. John's talent for photography was passed on to his children and grandchildren. John and Cherrie enjoyed traveling to the National Parks and across the world. John worked at Dayton Hudson for 36 years in a variety of leadership positions. He traveled for fashion shows as a buyer in NYC, London, Paris and Milan. He was a recruiter for Dayton's, traveling across the country, visiting college campuses. John was always full of optimism, smiles, laughter, and energy. He was also organized, disciplined, and loved financial planning. He played ice hockey, organized a noon basketball league, loved to downhill ski in CO, and did extensive hiking in Glacier, where he worked before college, and in Tucson AZ while retired. John and Cherrie had a home in Edina for 44 years, wintered in Tucson for 27 years, and have owned a cabin on Lower Whitefish for 49 years. The cabin was his "happy place" where he enjoyed family, swimming, hot dog roasts, and the loons. John was a devoted father and grandfather, always encouraging good grades, sports, and discipline. He provided his time, financial expertise and leadership skills in support of Gustavus Adolphus College, the YMCA/ Camp Warren, and Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church. John enjoyed camping with family and friends with trips to the mountains and the Boundary Waters in the winter. John is survived by his wife, Cherrie; daughters, Susan Bold Schumacher and Linda (Dale Schurle) Bold; granddaughters, Allison (Ben), Sarah (Tony), and Caroline; and great-grandsons, Jack, William and Charlie. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 17th from 3-4pm with visitation an hour before and a tea following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to American Heart Association or a charity of your choosing.
