James LeRoy Arnold

On August 15, 2024, James LeRoy Arnold (age 94) passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with congestive heart failure and post-polio syndrome. Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and a man of strong faith and humility. Jim was born on April 29, 1930, in Belvidere, IL where he worked on his family's farm. In 1945 Jim contracted polio and was told if he survived, he would never walk again. It was only because of his mother's determination and the Sister Kenny Method that Jim not only survived this horrible disease but learned to walk again and finish high school. Jim met Mary Ellen Brummond on a blind date and they married on May 15, 1954 in Janesville, WI. They eventually settled in Edina, MN where they lived in the same house for 55 years. Earlier this year, Mary and Jim celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with family and friends. Jim spent his career in the automobile industry, and was a dedicated General Motors employee, working as a District Manager for over 35 years. He was an avid bowler and was one pin away from a perfect game many times. Jim also loved the Minnesota Twins, playing horseshoes, hiking and camping in the mountains of Colorado, watching his grandsons play baseball, watching his granddaughters dance, and watching every Western movie known to man. He devoted his time and energy to helping others, including coaching youth baseball and football, volunteering for Lutheran Brotherhood, and serving as a long-time board member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Edina, MN. Jim is survived by his loving wife Mary, daughter Barb Moksnes and her husband John, son Robert Arnold and his wife Sarah, and his five grandchildren: Bobby, Justin and Matthew Moksnes, and Jillian and Bridget Arnold. Jim is also survived by his favorite cousin Vic "Lou" Arnold and his wife, Marie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Gayle Arnold and sister Janet Partington. A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 21 from 1:00-3:00pm at Washburn-McReavy Funeral Chapel 5000 W. 50th St. in Edina, MN. A private burial will be held on September 23 in Janesville, WI at Milton Lawns Memorial Park.
