Howard Theodore Schulze

Schulze, Howard T. Age 95 of Eden Prairie, passed away on September 21, 2022, peacefully in his apartment at Riley Crossing in Chanhassen, MN. He will be deeply missed by his children, Linda (David) Schlegelmilch, Scott (Julie) Taylor, Barbara Taylor, Keith (Sandy) Taylor, and Christine Schulze; grandchildren, Kelly Brace, Laura (Allen) Lundberg, Matthew Brace, Jeffrey Taylor, Samuel Schlegelmilch, Ian (Sarah) Taylor, Sloane Taylor, and Tony Schulze; great-grandchildren, Riley and Jaden Brace, Ella, Mason and Lia Lundberg. Howard is preceded in death by his wife, Janet Schulze; parents, Theodore and Christine Schulze of South St. Paul, MN; sister, Carol Schulze of West St. Paul, MN; aunts, uncles, and cousins. Howard was born and raised in South St. Paul, MN where he attended and graduated from South St. Paul High School in June 1944. He started his college career only to be drafted into the Army at the end of WWII. While enroute to be part of the invasion force for the Japanese mainland, the war ended. He spent the remainder of his time on the isle of Okinawa processing Japanese prisoners of war. Upon his return, he returned to the University of Minnesota and graduated in June 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He then spent his 40 plus year career with Twin City Testing. This is where he was an integral part of many big projects, including the IDS Building and the monorail system at the Apple Valley Zoo. Howard met his one and only love, Janet in 1966 on a blind date, and they were married a year later. Janet was a widower with four children, in which he took care of, and then had their own child, Christine, a year after marriage. Howard loved his family, traveling on numerous family vacations, boating on Lake Independence at his father-in-law's house, family holidays and dinners, where he was a top-notch cook, and monthly poker parties with his buddies. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 7, at Washburn-McReavy Eden Prairie Chapel (7625 Mitchell Road, Eden Prairie) at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Riley Crossing Senior Living, Dimensions Floor, 620 Aldrich Drive, Chanhassen, MN 55317. All are welcome to the Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
