Gloria Hogan

Hogan, Gloria Cherne age 86, of Edina, Minnesota, passed away from colon cancer; she was a 25-year survivor of breast cancer. Born in Warroad, MN, she graduated from Buhl High School in Buhl, MN where she was the winner of two Minnesota State High School speech awards. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Speech and Theatre Arts. She also appeared in a number of University of Minnesota Theater productions. After working at the Golden Rule Department Store in St. Paul, she began an exciting 25-year career as a reporter, working for New York-headquartered Fairchild Publications. She became the Twin Cities Bureau Chief, covering nine industry publications, the best-known being Women's Wear Daily and was the recipient of their national writing award. In 1970, she was a founding partner of the first all-women public relations firm in downtown Minneapolis called S.H.E. (Siegel-Hogan Enterprises) with her partner and friend Margot Siegel. The public relations/advertising firm served clients in fashion, advertising and business. She also continued as a business columnist on the Minneapolis Star and as a fashion/business writer for Corporate Report, Twin Cities Woman, Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine, Skyway News, and Real Estate Journal. In 1990, she established her own firm, Gloria Hogan Communications in St. Louis Park, MN. She is the author of several books, most notably a biography of fashion icon Elizabeth Quinlan. She was a past president of the Minneapolis/St. Paul Fashion Group, also received their prestigious "Tribute to Excellence" award. She was involved in the founding and was a past president of the Goldstein Gallery of Fashion History at the University of Minnesota. She was a curator of several fashion events including "Paris in the Cities," and "50 Years of Great Fashion," among others. She was a guest co-curator, with her friend Delores Defore, for "American Fashion Transformed: Four Master Designers" (Pauline Trigere, Bill Blass, Geoffrey Beene and Norman Norell) in the fall of 2006. An avid golfer and sports enthusiast, she worked public relations at the 2008 Women's US Open at Edina's Interlachen Country Club. A voracious reader, she loved her books, and was a crossword puzzle wiz. She really knew her fashion and dressed the part. She is a charter member and former officer of the Minnesota Press Club. 55-year member of Interlachen Country Club, also a longtime member of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and the Walker Art Center. Cherne; and brothers, Albert, Lloyd (Joan) and Howard Cherne. Survived by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Dennis Hogan; daughter, Diane and son, Dennis; brothers, Anthony L., Dr. Harold (Mary), Russell (Ruth); and sisters-in- law, Elizabeth Cherne (Bob) Book, Beulah Cherne, and Sheila Wolfe; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials to the N.C. Little Hospice or the Goldstein Gallery at the University of Minnesota. Special thanks to her caregivers at Fairview Southdale Hospital and the marvelous staff of the N.C.
