Eugene "Gene" Conley

Conley, Eugene P. "Gene" Age 70, of New Brighton, passed away surrounded by family on March 16, 2006 after a strong fight against lung cancer. Preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Aurelia Conley. Survived by loving wife, LoRae Hilgers; son, Julian (Cathy) Conley of Albertville; grandson, Trevor Conley of Merrill, WI; sister Pat (Bob) Houk of Rockville, MD; step-children Ken (Chip) Hilgers Jr. of Maple Grove, Susan (Eric) Mottinger of Maple Grove, John (Cathie) Hilgers of Oak Grove, Mike Hilgers of Ramsey, J'nee (Nate) Easter of Alpharetta, GA; brothers-in-law Edward (Skip) (Phyllis) Cech of Milpitas, CA, Don (Sharon) Cech of Longmont, CO; sisters-in-law Jan (Bob) Ehlers of New Hope, Diane (Jim) McCall of Alexandria, Donna (Ted) Spitzmiller of Albuquerque, NM; step-grandchildren Justin, Derek, Carter, Tyler, Andie, Afton, Noah, Emilee, and Riley; aunts Helen Carpenter of Minneapolis, Deloris (Ernie) Nordgren of Minneapolis; special cousin William (Bill) (Doris) Conley of Wrenshall; special friends, Denny Johnson, Mary Marquardt, Joe & Cathy, Todd Peterson, Tom Logelin, Skip Cech, and Kaye Notley; devoted pet dogs Teddy Bear and Lucky; and many friends, cousins, nieces and nephews. Gene was born on October 31, 1935 in Minneapolis. He graduated from Vocational High School, Minneapolis, in 1953, served in the Navy from 1953 to 1974, and is a Vietnam Veteran, reaching the rank of Chief. He then worked for the Post Office from 1974 until present. Gene loved the outdoors, from planting trees on his land to going kayaking, cross country skiing, and sailing. He loved to travel, take walks and go dancing with his beloved wife as well as simply watching a movie while enjoying popcorn or ice cream. He also loved to fish and spend time with his grandson, Trevor. He was a friend to all animals and especially his pets, Tippy, Baby, Rascal, Toto, Blue, Teddy and Lucky. Gene was a wonderful man with a huge heart. He fought this disease as he lived his life, with class, strength, and a positive attitude. He worried more about those around him than he did about himself. Gene was graced with two angels on this earth who he loved more than life, and they felt the same, his loving wife LoRae and his grandson Trevor. Gene was a kind and loving husband and a supportive father, and he loved being a grandfather. Gene will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. You can rest easy now Chief, everyone is taken care of. Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 25, at the Church of St. Stephen, 525 Jackson St., Anoka. Visitation 1 hour prior to mass at the church and from 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 24, at: Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, 1827 Coon Rapids Blvd., Coon Rapids; 763-767-1000. Memorials preferred to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or The Children's Cancer Foundation.
