Elizabeth Ann Rasmussen

Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Jones Rasmussen, age 93, of Edina and Nisswa died on November 25. Betty was born in Minneapolis and proudly attended Southwest High School and the University of Minnesota. In 1951 she married the love of her life, Roland Rasmussen. Together they raised five children, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss her dearly. Betty knew and loved each of her family and friends as unique individuals. She could talk to anyone about anything. With elegance and dignity, Betty taught us to seek and appreciate beauty, never letting a sunset pass or an oriole fly by without inviting us to share her awe. Betty was a gracious and generous hostess. She lavished those she loved with her renowned cuisine at beautiful welcoming tables. Betty treasured her lifelong bonds with her friends from kindergarten through high school and beyond. Her cupboard was always stocked with milk bones for visiting dogs who sensed her compassion. Betty was a voracious reader, her intellect and curiosity reflected in the many and varied authors whose works she enjoyed. Betty volunteered tirelessly to improve the lives of people with cognitive disabilities. Her advocacy for beloved daughter, Johanna, improved the lives and opportunities for Minnesota children with special needs. Whether she was chairperson of a volunteer board or working in the trenches for non-profits, she touched everyone with her dedication and kindness. Betty and Roland traveled the world together and with friends, but her most cherished place was on Bass Lake with family, friends, and her Scotties. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Roland, daughter Jo, and son Phillip. She leaves behind her devoted children and their spouses Jenny & Mark Bretheim, Paul Rasmussen & Trish Van Pilsum, Karl and Missy Rasmussen; beloved grandchildren and their spouses Sam Bretheim and Angela Kohtz, Ellen Bretheim, Eric and Kelly Anne Bretheim, Andrew and Lisa Rasmussen, Talla Rasmussen and Donald Bluhm, Olivia Rasmussen, Avery and William Rasmussen, Leif Rasmussen, Sarah Rasmussen and Peter Holmes, and David Rasmussen; and her sweet great grandchildren Sidney, Rohen and Kyrie; her sister Nancy Hult, many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. A memorial service celebrating Betty's life will be held on December 18 at 11:00 AM @ Mount Olivet Lutheran Church 5025 Knox Avenue South, Mpls, MN.
