Dr. Marie (Luther) Heaney

Heaney, Dr. Lois Marie (Luther) Age 64, of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Minneapolis. Born July 5, 1946 at Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Graduated from Northwestern School of Nursing and later the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis with a biology degree. After working at the University of Minnesota Hospitals as a nurse and clinical researcher and while raising her two sons, Dr. Heaney entered the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis in 1984. After graduation, she completed her residency in internal medicine at the Hennepin County Medical Center and joined Hennepin Faculty Associates in Minneapolis where she practiced medicine for nearly ten years. In 2001 she moved to Phoenix to join the Arizona Medical Clinic where she served on the board of directors and as head hospitalist until her retirement in 2007. On Monday, May 2, Dr. Heaney passed away at home in Minneapolis surrounded by family and friends after waging a courageous battle with cancer for more than four years. Dr. Heaney had an adventurous spirit with interests ranging from skiing and coaching baseball to worldwide travel, including volunteer service with Habitat for Humanity in the Philippines. A loving mother, she will always be remembered for her dedication to her family and friends. Survived by her two sons, Mark Luther Heaney (Amy Kaloides) and Andrew Ryan Heaney (Ashley), and her three grandchildren, Ashton Luther Heaney, Brooksley Ann Heaney and Nolan Alexander Heaney. Also survived by her three brothers, Richard (Donna), William (Janet Robert) and Robert (Lucille), and her four nieces and nephews, Alexander William Luther, Alicia Ann Luther, Annette Michelle Luther (Benjamin Suhr) and Kathleen Erica Luther. Preceded in death by her mother Eleanor in 1985, her father Leonard in 2010 and her sister-in-law Darlene Luther in 2002. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Friday at St. Joan of Arc Church (4537 Third Street S, Mpls). Visitation 5-7 PM Thursday at Washburn McReavy Edina Chapel (5000 W 50th & Hwy 100) (952-920-3996). Graveside services Saturday 11 AM at Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls.
