Dr. Barton

Barton, Dr. John Age 80, of Edina. John was born November 19, 1930 in Davenport, IA and passed away on March 19, 2011 in Edina, MN, due to complications from a brain tumor. He was a successful and respected Orthodontist in the community. He is survived by his children, Curt, Elise Mullen (Paul), Carol Chappelle (Doug), John (Karen), Mary Simmons (Craig) and Patricia Campbell (Ted). He has 12 wonderful grandchildren that just adored him, Catie, Chris (Erica), Charlie, Christine, Andrew, Zach, Eli, Mathew, Sara Helen, Halle and McKenna. He is also survived by two brothers, Paul of Orlando, FL and Jim of Des Moines, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Catherine. He graduated from the University of Iowa Dental School. After a two year stint in the Navy, he went to St. Louis University for his orthodontic degree. He was one of the first orthodontists in the Minneapolis area and set up his practice in 1959 in the new Southdale Medical Building in Edina. He was an active member at Our Lady of Grace Church for a long time. All his children went to school there. John was a very accomplished golfer who had many high finishes in State Golf events. At one time he had played all of the top 100 golf courses in America. He was a member of The Minikahda Club and a former member at Edina CC and Monterey Peninsula CC in Pebble Beach, CA. He moved to Pebble Beach once he retired and lived there for 20 years. For many years, he owned a home on Trout Lake in northern MN where he spent many enjoyable long weekends tooling around in his 'Blue Max'. His primary focus was his family and he greatly enjoyed regular get-togethers with his children and grandchildren. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Monday, March 28, 2011 with visitation one hour prior to the Mass at the Church of Our Lady of Grace Church, 5071 Eden Ave., Edina. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Evans Scholarship Fund. Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel 952-920-3996
