Donald W. Evenson

Evenson, Donald W. age 70, of Mpls., died on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, surrounded by his family. His tremendous spirit gave him courage to battle his cancers for four years. Donald was born on July 9, 1944 to Timan and Gladys (Bjergum) Evenson in Spring Grove, MN. He married his high school sweetheart, Dariene Newgaard, on October 3, 1964. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this past year. They were blessed with two wonderful children; son, Tim (Angie) Evenson and daughter, Kelly (Scott) Evenson Mayhew; two precious grandchildren, Brayden and Katelyn; and grand-dog, Riley. Besides his immediate family, Don is survived by one sister, Jan Olson; nephew, Bruce (Deb) Anderson; and extended family. Preceded in death by his father, mother and nephew, Robert Anderson. Don's inquisitive mind gave him many opportunities in the plastic industry working for such major companies as Rainbow Plastic, Schaper (Cootie), Northway Plastic and finally retiring from Cornelius as a manufacturing engineer in 2000. He was very much a people person and made friendships that have lasted a lifetime. Don loved to travel and explore. Each year an adventure was taken with their good friends, Barb and Vern. In 2001, Don and Dariene, with their family, were able to explore Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. They experienced the beauty of Cozumel, Mexico with Tim and family and Angie's parents in 2011. This past year Don with son, Tim, was able to fulfill a dream trip to Ireland. Don's incredible work ethic, sense of humor and love of life were at the heart of everything he did. Don never met a stranger and never forgot a friend. He was always there to help those in need, comfort their sorrows and celebrate their joys. He was our "Dove" candy man. Donations preferred to Pathways, Inc., 3115 Hennepin Ave So., Mpls., MN 55408.
