David Paul Johnson

David Johnson, Age 75, of Bloomington, formerly of Edina. On September 23rd, 2022, surrounded by his family, Dave peacefully left this earth and was first joyfully welcomed into the arms of Jesus and then into the arms of his loving wife of forty-six years, Celeste. Preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Sr. and Dorothy; brothers, Clarence Jr. and Paul. Survived by children, Steve (Stephanie), Lisa (Manuel) Gutierrez, Kristin (Melvin) Werner; grandchildren, David, Christian, Eliana; and his dear friend Dave Bimberg (Jennie). Dave was an ambitious entrepreneur from a young age, selling sodas around the Minneapolis lakes and newspapers downtown. After graduating from Minnehaha Academy, he took a job at a local furniture store sweeping, dusting, and doing other things to keep the store clean. At twenty-one, after serving in the Army National Guard, he came back to that store working in sales and eventually becoming manager. His work ethic paid off and at the age of twenty-four he purchased that furniture store, eventually specializing in mattresses and opening twelve more stores. Over the next thirty-eight years he proudly employed many wonderful people for whom he cared deeply. As important as his business was to him, nothing was more important to him than his faith and nothing brought him more joy than his family. Together, Dave and Celeste raised three children in a wonderful Christian home overflowing with love, laughter, and encouragement. As busy as he was, to this day none of his children can remember him ever missing one of their events, whether they be academic or athletic. Later in life, he and Celeste continued to share that same love and passion for their grandchildren and their activities. His family made him so very proud and they were so very proud of him. Dave was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, friend and so much more. He was a gentle, kind, caring, and generous man who taught us so very much by his example. There seemed to be nothing he enjoyed more than seeing his family and friends happy and sharing many adventures with them, both home and away. Most important of all, any time they needed him he was there. Time and again, Dave saw the best in people, giving them a chance or help when maybe no one else would. A celebration of Dave's life will be held at 11am on Saturday, October 29th at Washburn-McReavy Chapel, 5000 West 50th & MN-100, Edina, MN 55436. Visitation will take place one hour before and reception immediately after. Following the reception the family will proceed to the burial at Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis.
