Carolyn Y. Cuthill

Carolyn Yow Cuthill, beloved wife for 64+ years of Bob Cuthill, passed away peacefully at their home early morning on February 14, 2020. Carolyn was born on January 12, 1929 in Kinsale, Virginia. She and Bob loved that they shared the same birthday, one year apart! She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Nellie Yow, her sister Rebecca Yow and her brother John Yow. She is survived by her husband Bob, along with her sister Juanita Holloway, her children David (Sarah) Cuthill, Kevin (Maria) Cuthill, Stephen Cuthill, Colleen Hoctor, brother-in-law, William Cuthill, nieces Joanne (Jack) Thebau, Mary Elizabeth (Dennis) Kicklighter, Kathy (Terry) McGhee, and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carolyn was passionate about her family, her friends, her faith and the many communities that she and Bob called home over the years – especially the 40 years they spent in Minnesota. Carolyn was a tireless advocate for all those less fortunate and especially loved to engage her grandchildren in the mission of Heifer International to “ending hunger and poverty”. Having struggled with Parkinson's disease the past 16 years, she engaged passionately to help others with the disease, establishing a Parkinson's support group at Waverly Gardens. She was also very committed to our precious democracy, proudly serving as an alternate state delegate for the Democratic party. Carolyn was an avid artist, painting beautiful scenes of places and people in her life. She loved music – especially Nat King Cole, George Winston, Frank Sinatra, Big Bands and Symphonic Orchestras. Her most favorite music was that played by two of her grandsons, Robert and Broderick. Above all, she loved Bob with her whole heart and cherished their time together raising their family and then traveling, sailing, reading and continuing their life-long commitment to learning. They were also known for their love of spending hours and hours engaging in lively discussion and debate about life, love and faith – and how to live all of these most fully. Friends are invited to join Bob and family in celebrating Carolyn’s wonderful life on Monday, February 17, 2020 at 10am. The service will be held in The Chapel at Waverly Gardens, 5919 Centerville Rd, North Oaks MN 55127. A light lunch reception with the family will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for support of the causes Carolyn championed, including Heifer International, Struthers Parkinson Clinic, AEON (create and sustain quality affordable homes) or White Bear United Methodist Church.
